The US has spent 716 billion dollars this year on defense

Foreign ministers from NATO member countries said in a statement Tuesday that they "strongly support the finding of the United States that Russian Federation is in material breach of its obligations" under the 1987 Intermediate-range Nuclear Forces Treaty, leading to Pompeo saying the United States would suspend its treaty obligations in 60 days over the alleged violations.

"President Xi and I have a very strong and personal relationship". Tests and deployments of new missiles were on hold, he said.

Russia's President Vladimir Putin (L) is pictured during a meeting with India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi (R) and China's President Xi Jinping (out of frame), in the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Buenos Aires.

Later in the day, Trump addressed the issue of illegal migration in his Twitter post stressing that billions of dollars could be saved if the Democrats provided the votes to build the wall at the US-Mexico Border.

Trump and Xi's bilateral summit Saturday on the sidelines of a G-20 leaders' summit in Argentina resulted in a 90-day delay in new US tariffs, possibly giving leeway for progress in diplomatic affairs.

At the time, Trump said the increase in spending was to provide the US military with resources "better than any military on earth".

The 1987 INF deal did not cover China and was created to eliminate short- and intermediate-range missiles on Europe's doorstep.

In a news conference at that time, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said he believed that, despite Russia's insistence, "the most plausible assessment would be that Russian Federation is in violation of the treaty".

NATO foreign ministers backed the Trump administration's stance over a landmark missile treaty with Russian Federation when they met in Brussels Tuesday.

"As is typical at multilateral events, President Trump and the first lady had a number of informal conversations with world leaders at the dinner last night, including President Putin", Sanders said in a statement, according to USA Today.

"Now it is out of (the) question", Dmitry Peskov, Putin's spokesman, told Russia's state's news agency Tass.

"But unfortunately, as you know, this meeting did not take place".

The Pentagon's budget for 2019 totals about $716 billion, including health care, pay and war costs. The bill provided the largest military pay raise in nine years.

"We've talked to the Russians a great deal", the state secretary also said.

Until recently, the president has bragged about his increase in military spending, railing about previous administrations' neglect of America's armed forces.

The US spends more on defense annually than do the next seven countries combined.
