Trump Is Repeatedly Targeted in Mueller and SDNY's Big Michael Cohen Memos

WASHINGTON ― Former Trump national security adviser Michael Flynn has offered extensive cooperation in the Russian Federation investigation and shouldn't spend any time in prison, special counsel Robert Mueller's team said in a court filing on Tuesday.

The memo is due today for Flynn, who pleaded guilty more than a year ago to lying to the Federal Bureau of Investigation about speaking to Russian officials on Trump's behalf.

The special counsel Robert Mueller's office has told defence lawyers in recent weeks that it is "tying up loose ends" in the investigation into Russia's interference in the 2016 election and whether members of President Donald Trump's campaign colluded with Moscow, Yahoo News reported Monday. Trump insisted that Cohen, who has reportedly spoken with Mueller's team for over 70 hours, "makes up stories", adding that he "lied for this outcome and should, in my opinion, serve a full and complete sentence".

The filing occurred after the special counsel had on four times occasions asked the judge allow them more time for Flynn to cooperate with federal investigators.

Last week, Corsi refused Mueller's offer for a plea deal over his role as a suspected intermediary between Stone and WikiLeaks, saying he was prepared to spend the "rest of my life" in prison rather than "sign a lie".

Mr Flynn had been a fervent supporter of Mr Trump during the election campaign. He has admitted he lied to Congress to help Trump and broke campaign finance laws by helping to arrange hush money for women who might have embarrassed Trump with accusations of infidelity as he was running for president.

"Those who said the president's warm and complimentary tweet constitutes witness tampering should be reminded that I have never been contacted by any investigative body and therefore, by definition, this can not be true", Stone told the Daily Caller's Saagar Enjeti. "It is a shame because his actions during the transition were lawful", Trump tweeted after Flynn pleaded guilty a year ago.

He has instead spent considerable time with his family and worked to position himself for a post-conviction career. Flynn, who resigned following reports that he misled White House officials about his contacts with Russia, was seen attending the 10th anniversary of the Russian television network RT in 2015 where Russian President Vladimir Putin gave a speech.

Flynn's sentencing hearing is scheduled for December 18, and prosecutors are due to submit a sentencing memo for him on Tuesday.

The criminal charges included five counts of tax evasion, one count of making false statements to a financial institution, one count of willfully causing an unlawful corporate contribution, and one count of making an excessive campaign contribution at the request of a candidate. According to the filing, Flynn has been cooperating in "several ongoing investigations". Flynn was under investigation by the Justice Department for the work when he became national security adviser.
