A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket lifts off with 64 satellites bound for orbit on the SSO-A mission that launched on Monday Dec. 3 2018

The third time is most certainly the charm for SpaceX.

Sunday morning's launch attempt was postponed to allow for additional inspections of the rocket's second stage.

"It includes 15 microsats and 49 cubesats from both commercial and government entities, of which more than 25 are from global organizations from 17 countries, including the United States, Australia, Italy, Netherlands, Finland, South Korea, Spain, Switzerland, UK, Germany, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Thailand, Poland, Canada, Brazil and India", according to Spaceflight Industries. No SpaceX rocket has yet flown more than two missions. Eastern, carrying 64 satellites to low Earth orbit.

The Hawthorne-based SpaceX has worked for years to flawless the reuse of its rockets to slash the cost of space missions, landing the first stage of the rockets either back on land near the original launch site or on barges floating in the ocean.

"Eight of the satellites on board a Falcon 9 from Vandenberg Air Force Base will be from companies hoping to build a truly global Internet of Things by revolutionizing satellite communications", Wired reported.

On Monday, SpaceX, the private spaceflight company founded by Elon Musk, launched and landed one of its Falcon 9 rockets for the third time, marking the first time in SpaceX's history that they've managed to fly the same rocket booster on three separate missions.

"With its mission complete Monday, the first-stage booster returned to the drone ship, 'Just Read the Instructions", positioned southwest of Vandenberg.

Reusability is a major goal of SpaceX founder Elon Musk's rocket program.

The first stage was previously launched and recovered during missions in May and August.

This particular mission also pushed an unprecedented number of small satellites to space for a US-based rocket.

SpaceX launched a rocket carrying a payload of 64 satellites from Vandenberg Air Force Base on December 3, 2018.

SpaceX did not webcast the deployment of the 64 satellites after the Falcon 9 rocket's second stage reached orbit, citing an absence of ground stations in view from the rocket to beam down video.

Some of those smaller satellites aim to build an internet network capable of supporting smart devices back on Earth's surface. Using a stack of payload dispensers split into upper and lower free-fliers, Spaceflight will deploy the satellites over the course of six hours.
