The public are permitted to pay their respects in the Capitol from late Monday until Wednesday.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is comparing the "steady hand" with which President George H.W. Bush kept his bomber under control when it was shot down during World War II with the way he guided the country.

Bush died at his Houston home Friday at age 94.

Bush's passing puts him back in the Washington spotlight after more than two decades living the relatively low-key life of a former president. Bush's family has not said who will speak at the service. News of the visit broke hours after Trump's Vice President, Mike Pence, delivered a stirring tribute to the 41st President.

Denise Sesler of Nashville, state of Tennessee, was among a crowd of people lining up outside Capitol Hill.

Christy Smith paused over the weekend to pay her respects to Bush at a bronze statue of him at a Houston park.

Bush's casket will be transported by a motorcade Wednesday morning to the Washington National Cathedral, where a state funeral will be held at 11 a.m.(1600 GMT) and be attended by Trump and the first lady.

Meanwhile, other late-night hosts, including Jimmy Kimmel and Seth Meyers, mocked Trump's appearance at the G-20 summit in Argentina, where at one point he accidentally walked away from Argentinian President Mauricio Macri when he was expected to pose for a photo shoot. One of 41's last wishes was for Sully to continue to serve. "Luckily I had a freshly laundered pair of Bill Clinton socks to mark the occasion", Bush tweeted.

Mr. Bush won the race to succeed former President Ronald Reagan by a landslide, steering the ship of state as the Berlin Wall came down, the Soviet Union dissolved and the first Gulf War broke out. He served as head of the U.S. Liaison Office in China between 1974 and 1975.

Side by side, Democratic and Republican leaders laid floral red, white and blue wreaths around the casket of Bush, the 32nd American and the 12th president to lie in state in the Capitol Rotunda. His wartime duty was spent in the Pacific flying a three-man Avenger torpedo bomber.
