Apple removes another 700+ apps from its Chinese App Store

Apple removes over 700 apps from Chinese App Store

Apple reportedly removed 718 apps from the Chinese App Store in the last few days.

Apple and TRAI struggled to come to an agreement on this issue for nearly a year before in July the Indian regulators threatened to ban the iPhone in the country. Earlier, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India had requested Apple to include the Trai DND - Do Not Disturb app in App store.

The DND app itself isn't new and it debuted in Google's app store back in 2016. Because the app uses an iPhone's phone and messaging logs, Apple refused to allow it to be included in the Indian App Store due to privacy concerns. And now, the app is available for iPhone and iPad users as well. The problem, according to sources within Apple, was that the TRAI-DND app was deemed a privacy risk.

After installing the TRAI DND app on your iPhone, you will be guided through three-step process to register for or modify your DND preferences, and start reporting offending text messages and calls by giving the app the necessary permission. "Provided that where such devices do not permit functioning of such Apps as prescribed in regulations 6 (2)(e) and regulations 23 (2)(d), Access Providers shall, on the order or direction of the Authority, derecognise such devices from their telecom networks".

When you activate the DND app (or any other SMS/ Call Report app for that matter), Apple warns that by "enabling this SMS/ Call reporting allows your device to send to the developer of this app information about your calls and text messages you choose to report".

"Do Not Disturb" app has finally gone live on the Apple App Store as well as iOS devices with the latest version of the software. Also, the approved app only supports the iPhones running iOS 12.1.
