2020 Mercedes-AMG GT R Pro: No extra power, no extra need
MERCEDES-AMG has unleashed its facelifted GT sportscar at the Los Angeles motor show, ushering in minor revisions and a limited-edition GT R Pro flagship, but not every variant is confirmed for Australia yet. If you answered "very fast", then Mercedes now has the AMG GT R, more performance oriented but still decent enough to putter around town with. The media presentation also includes a special with a wealth of additional information and extensive photo and video material.
"A lot of experience from our current GT3 and GT4 motorsport activities entered into its development".
The AMG GT R Pro also debuts range-wide upgrades for the GT sports auto - created to bring it in line with the recently introduced AMG GT Four Door Coupe.
The new Mercedes-Benz GLE will celebrate its public premiere in the USA. The AMG drive programmes can be triggered via the controller.
Customers of the 2020 Mercedes-AMG GT also have newly-designed 10-double-spoked forged wheels in titanium gray at their disposal. With four years in the market, it was about time for a fresh look.
Handling is enhanced even more by a carbon fibre shear panel in the rear underbody of the vehicle, which stiffens up the rear end structure.
The new AMG coil-over suspension offers even more choices for tailoring the set-up to the particular circuit.
Mercedes-AMG has developed a set of new coilovers for the GT R Pro where the compression and rebound can be easily adjusted through a dedicated dial on the damper. Mercedes-AMG has also developed air slots in the front fenders to reduce front-axle lift while at the rear, there is a small carbon fiber aero element on each wheel arch.
Evidence of the attention to detail applied to the Pro's chassis comes with the ditching of conventional bearings in the rear upper wishbones for Uniball spherical bearings, which join the existing lower wishbone Uniballs. Lower models get round tips while the GT C sports AMG's signature square tips. Base GT and higher-level GT C models also include a revised rear fascia with new tail-pipe designs.
In addition to a host of carbon-fiber components, weight is saved by the standard-fit ceramic high-performance compound braking system exclusively with black painted brake calipers as well as by the AMG bucket seats made of clear-coated carbon fiber (again not for USA, Canada and China). The bolted steel roll cage of the roll-over protection system consists of a main roll bar, a brace for mounting the harnesses, two rear braces as well as a diagonal X-brace in the rear end. The system further increases the already excellent vehicle rigidity and thus also has a positive influence on the vehicle's driving dynamics.
The four-litre twin-turbo V8 now makes 585bhp of power and 700Nm of torque.
"The AMG GT embodies the core of our brand, "Driving Performance", in a unique way". Meanwhile, the AMG GT R retains its large central tailpipe and continues to be flanked by two further tailpipes hidden in the diffuser.
