Lloyd Russell Moyle, a 32-year-old Labour MP representing Brighton, said he couldn't "keep quiet any more" that he was living with the virus - which he contracted when he was 22.
"The region of the Americas has made important progress in the fight against AIDS, and part of this is down to the fact that over three-quarters of people living with HIV have been tested, and nearly 80 per cent of them are now in treatment", said Dr Marcos Espinal, director of the PAHO/WHO Department of Communicable Diseases and Environmental Determinants of Health.
"Next year I'll be marking an anniversary of my own: 10 years since I became HIV positive", Mr Russell-Moyle said. Etched into much of the public's memory as a death sentence, HIV conjures images of gravestones and a life marked by tragedy. I know the whole Labour Party is proud of him.
"His dignity and hope will inspire people across the country and around the world - those with HIV, and also those of us who will always stand together with them", Mr Corbyn added in a statement. We reaffirm every HIV positive person's right to life-saving treatment immediately upon knowing your status.
"But we must remain vigilant against prejudice, and we must fight for everyone to have access to effective treatment".
The MP is believed to be the first to come out as HIV-positive on the floor of the House of Commons.
A Labour MP has become the first to say he is HIV-positive in the Commons, as he said the condition is "deeply misunderstood".
World AIDS Day takes place on the 1st December each year and has been celebrated since 1988. "You walk out feeling totally numb, with a million things going through your mind, and at the same time a sense of absolute nothingness".
"The more information we have on HIV status, and the earlier we have it, the better able we will be to aim for these benchmarks and their benefits".
In addition, the Cayman Islands Red Cross continues its work in the community and schools, offering education on sex, sexuality, HIV testing and counseling, as well as condom distribution.
