Dead brothel owner wins Nevada state assembly seat

Dennis Hof has won a seat in the Nevada state assembly despite being dead

Dennis Hof

Hof spent the days before his death attending parties celebrating his 72nd birthday.

Hof owned seven legal brothels in Nevada, where the legality of prostitution is determined on a county-by-county basis.

Hof, 72, was found dead on October 16 by adult film star Ron Jeremy after a weekend of parties celebrating Hof's birthday.

Dennis Hof defeated Democratic opponent Lesia Romanov on Tuesday in Nevada's deep-red Assembly District 36, which President Trump won in 2016 with 68 percent support, according to The Hill.

"He died quietly in his sleep", Hof's campaign manager Chuck Muth said at one of the brothels he operated in Crystal, Nevada.

Hof, who starred in the HBO reality television show Cathouse about the prostitutes working at one of his establishments, was running as a Donald Trump-style Republican.

Nevada Police, however, said they did not suspect foul play at the time of his death and no one that was with him the night before noticed any signs of ill health.

Nevada's 36th Assembly District has always been a Republican-held seat. Former NBA star Lamar Odom was once famously found unconscious at the Love Ranch after a four-day stay.

"He was discovered by longtime friend Ron Jeremy - who went to his room to wake him for a scheduled lunch at the Pahrump Senior Center - around 11am".

Brothels operate legally in seven rural Nevada counties. They're banned in the counties that contain Las Vegas and Reno.

This year, he ran as a Republican and earned backing from Trump associate Roger Stone and tax-cut activist Grover Norquist. As a result, Nevada Republicans encouraged people to vote for him anyway. He said this was the best year ever.

Even though he had died, the state officials confirmed that his name would still appear on the ballot, and it looks like his plight - as well as the inadequacy of other candidates, it would seem - really spoke to the living public of the state of Nevada. The sprawling district touches both California and Utah and includes the Nevada National Security Site where nuclear weapons were once tested.
