Federal securities regulators have issued subpoenas regarding Tesla's public assurances over the production of its newest vehicle, the company said Friday, the latest signal of an increasingly aggressive investigation into Elon Musk's electric automaker.

Tesla's expansion plans include India, as well as Africa and South America.

This clearly indicated Tesla's plan to enter the Indian market.

Still, in his most recent tweet, Musk outlined the company's long-term vision for expanding beyond its current biggest markets.

The probe, led by SEC investigators in San Francisco, touches on questions that have been raised by Tesla investors and former employees into whether the company had truthfully conveyed its progress in producing its futuristic, battery-powered cars.

Tesla now plans to expand to all population regions by end of 2019, said that Tesla CEO in in response to a query about the company's service capabilities outside North America. First sketch of the new vehicle was presented on the show electric truck from Tesla spent past year.

India might see partial presence of Tesla by 2020. He had earlier said "Would love to be in India".

In June 2017, Musk had confirmed on Twitter that Tesla was "in discussions with the government of India".

The automaker now has a Gigafactory facility in China, that makes Tesla cars and caters to most of the demand from the Asia-Pacific region. When Tesla launched its entry-level Model 3 back in 2017, the controversial entrepreneur justified the company's absence from India by invoking supply chain issues.

In 2015, Musk hosted Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to the Tesla factory in Fremont, California.
