A 'Breaking Bad' movie is in the works

07 November 2018, 05:25 | Myron Mathis

Details are frustratingly scarce at this point: We don't know whether the Breaking Bad movie will be released theatrically, or air on AMC, as the series did from 2008 to 2013. While no cast members from the AMC series have been confirmed to return, series creator Vince Gilligan is spearheading the project after signing a three-year deal renewal with Sony Pictures Television this past July. It is also unknown if either of Breaking Bad's main stars-Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul-are set to return.

The Hollywood Reporter claims the the show's writer is "working on a two-hour movie" based on the same high school teacher-turned-meth baron concept that made Breaking Bad an global phenomenon.

So, on a scale of one to 10, how psyched are you for a Breaking Bad movie?

Gilligan's current project, Better Call Saul, chronicling Saul Goodman's small-time lawyer who takes his own journey into criminal activities, is up to its fifth season, airing in 2019.

The local paper has claimed to have obtained an early plot synopsis too, saying that the movie will 'track the escape of a kidnapped man and his quest for freedom'.

While the New Mexico Film Office didn't comment on if Greenbrier is linked to the Breaking Bad franchise, production sources confirmed to the paper that it is. "For years we've built up the film industry in New Mexico and strengthened our film incentives, now we're seeing success after success for the film industry in our state".

Breaking Bad starred Cranston as chemistry teacher Walter White, who turned to manufacturing meth after being diagnosed with cancer.

Gilligan will be at the helm and also serve as executive producer alongside Mark Johnson and Melissa Bernstein - both of whom worked on Breaking Bad and the spin-off.
