U.S. girl, 10, to appear in court following death of infant

A TEN-YEAR-OLD girl has been arrested over the death of a baby after she allegedly stomped on his head.

He was fatally injured at a licensed daycare center in Wheaton, Wisconsin on October 30, with the 10 year-old girl now charged with his murder.

The young girl, whose name hasn't yet been released, appeared in Chippewa County Court in Wisconsin in the U.S. on Monday 5 November and was charged with first-degree intentional homicide in the death of a six-month-old boy, WHNT reports.

She was ordered held in custody on $50,000 bond until her next court appearance.

District Attorney Wade Newell said the girl later confessed to hurting the boy, according to television station WEAU in Eau Claire, Wisconsin.

The girl was staying with the family who runs the day care when the tragic death occurred.

Police said that they received a call from a caretaker saying that they had found the boy bleeding from the head and unresponsive.

The six-month-old was taken to Gillette Children's Hospital in Saint Paul, where he died two days later on 1 November.

Chippewa County Sheriff James Kowalczyk says the girl, who lives with foster parents at the home, told investigators the baby's head hit a footstool, and that she stomped on the baby's head in panic when it cried.
