Fox News resisted Monday when the Trump campaign had advertised to its followers that Hannity would appear as a "special guest" at the Missouri rally, saying Hannity was only there to cover the event.
Hannity tweeted today, "When the POTUS invited me on stage to give a few remarks last night, I was surprised, yet honored by the president's request". When Hannity took the stage, he delighted the crowd by calling the reporters in the back of the room "fake news". Speaking to a rally crowd in Georgia over the weekend, Trump made ominous references to the "Antifa" far-left-leaning militant groups and a migrant caravan moving slowly toward the U.S. -Mexico border that he has called an "invasion".
During the rally, however, Trump called Hannity up to the stage.
On Tuesday afternoon, Hannity attempted to justify his appearance with Trump.
Hannity hugged the president when he came onstage and, after echoing Trump's traditional epithets about the media, recited some economic statistics. Fox News didnt say if he faced consequences for the transgression.
Hannity is defending his on-stage appearance on the grounds that "this was not planned", even though he held a live show at the rally while the Trump Campaign made a point of highlighting his presence.
It was a group that included his own Fox News colleagues.
He said that the Trump rallies convinced him that Trump would win in 2016 because he had such a great connection with voters. "They've been with us from the beginning".
Fox News would not comment on how the situation was 'addressed, ' or provide any information about Hannity's actions beyond its initial public comment.
Fox News personality Sean Hannity and conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh were also slated to attend.
"They do unbelievable work day in and day out in a fair and balanced way", he said on Twitter. The same red "Make America Great Again" hats dot the crowd, which happily chants along with the greatest hits of the 2016 campaign, including "Lock Her Up", "Build the Wall" and a derogatory message toward a certain cable news network.
And after Hannity spoke with Trump backstage, Bill Shine, the former Fox News president turned White House communications director, offered him a high-five, according to the White House pool report.
