A Norwegian citizen of Iranian descent was arrested October 21 on suspicion of helping an unspecified Iranian intelligence service "to act in Denmark" based on his alleged involvement in the assassination plot, Danish security service chief Finn Borch Andersen said.

"During the meeting we underlined that the activity, that has come to light through the investigation in Denmark, is unacceptable", Soereide said in a statement.

"We are going to reach out to our European allies in the coming days to try to find a united response", Danish Prime Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen told reporters during a meeting of Northern European leaders in Oslo.

Iran on Wednesday summoned the Danish ambassador to Tehran over Copenhagen's allegations about an Iranian plot to kill an opposition activist in Denmark, the official IRNA news agency reported.

The Danish ambassador is being recalled by Copenhagen over the alleged plot to kill three Iranians living in the Scandinavian country.

The Ministry of foreign Affairs of Denmark, on Tuesday, October 30, made a decision to withdraw its Ambassador in Iran Danny Annan for consultation.

On Tuesday the PET accused Iranian intelligence officers of an assassination plot that allegedly targeted the head of a Danish branch of the Arab Struggle Movement for the Liberation of Ahvaz (ASMLA), a nationalist insurgent group advocating for a separate Arab state in Iranian Khuzestan province.

Iran accuses the group of being responsible for an attack in the mainly ethnic Arab city of Ahvaz in southwestern Iran.

The ministry notified Danny Annan of Iran's strong protest against Quote- hasty political reactions of some of the Danish officials to the allegations.

On Tuesday, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Qasemi dismissed the claim and said it was in line "with the enemies' plots and conspiracies against the good and ever-growing Iran-Europe relations under present grave and special conditions", according to state-run IRNA news.

"An Iranian intelligence agency has planned an assassination on Danish soil". Iran views the ASMLA as a terrorist organization.

Iran remains the world's leading state sponsor of terrorism, the Trump administration said in an annual report in September. "We call on our allies and partners to confront the full range of Iran's threats to peace and security", he said.

British Prime Minister Theresa May expressed her support for Denmark at the meeting. Back in September, Iran summoned the envoys from the UK, Netherlands and Denmark, after a terrorist attack on a military parade.

The so-called Islamic State group and a separatist Arab group claimed responsibility, and Iran staged several operations in Iraq and Syria in response.
