Musical artist Barbra Streisand waits to listen to US President Barack Obama speak during the Clinton Global Initiative annual meeting

"I just went ballistic", the 76-year-old said of the president to the Associated Press, who she refers to as "The Liar in Chief" and the "Groper in Chief". Their career? I don't worry about that kind of thing.

She explained: "My first album in 1962 or something like that, my manager was able to get me artistic control".

An already released song from the record, Don't Lie To Me, targets Mr Trump's alleged falsehoods.

The Times also asked Streisand if she could think of anything good that Trump has done. "I start the day with fluids, but after the morning news eat pancakes with maple syrup!".

"I can only be true to me as an artist and if people like it that's great, and if they don't, they don't have to buy it or listen to it".

"'Don't Lie to Me', if you don't look at the video, can be a more general idea".

Since the president's election, we've seen many debates over the value of art and artistic reactions to America under Trump.

In a March 2017 tweet, the singer-actress said Trump was making her "gain weight". "We always had a turnkey, totalitarian state - all we needed was an excuse, and all the institutions were in place to turn this into pure fascism", Cromwell said, according to Variety.

On the title tune, drenched in melancholy and strings, Streisand muses about the walls - real and metaphorical - that separate us: "We would have that better day/If all the walls came tumbling down".

"He echoed these sentiments during his acceptance speech, where he warned that he believes the country is headed toward the possibility of a violent revolution", Variety reported.
