White House to press forward with Trump's Space Command

National Space Council meeting

On Tuesday, Pence described the proposed Space Force as the "next and natural evolution of our armed forces", arguing that US adversaries such as China and Russian Federation are developing new technologies, such as hypersonic missiles, that make space a place where wars can be fought.

But Pence claimed that Russian Federation and China already have military operations in space and said potential threats in space include anti-satellite weapons, airborne lasers, "highly threatening in-orbit activities and evasive hypersonic missiles".

The White House does not foresee the creation of an independent space force before 2020, said US Vice-President Mike Pence, who heads the National Space Council, a government body that was revived a year ago after a decades-long hiatus. "It will be a consolidation, we believe, and from there, future Congresses and future administrations can grow and expand and nurture. the Space Force as they see fit", Mr Pence added.

An American "Space Force" proposed by President Trump will take shape within two years and bring military forces and civilian space security authorities under one roof, the White House has said.

Later Tuesday, the National Space Council, convened by the White House and chaired by the vice president, met at the National Defense University.

"Space is a war fighting domain just like the land, air, and sea", he said, "And America will be as dominant there as we are here on Earth". The Vice President reported that now to ensure space security, the United States employs about 60 thousand people.

Speaking at the National Space Council meeting in Washington, DC Tuesday, US Vice President Mike Pence outlined the forward progress in the creation of the Space Force as a new branch of the United States military. The Secretary of the Defense will then be expected to create a joint organization to detangle regulation and speed up space technology development. "The time has come to stop studying the problem and start fixing it".

With the help of the Congress, the United States Space Force will be created as the sixth branch of the armed forces. It also calls for $10 million per year for five years starting in 2020 to fund the commerce arm.
