The Giants made Ereck Flowers the No. 9 pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, but entering this season, he had not lived up to expectations in NY.

The New York Giants are parting ways with offensive tackle Ereck Flowers, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.

The Ereck Flowers era - or error - is coming to an end.

Flowers started the Giants first two games of the year but was benched before they faced the Texans in Week 3.

Flowers has been a disappointment since being taken out of Miami.

Flowers is now listed as the backup at both left and right tackle.

New York's decision not only to retain Flowers in 2018, but to keep him as a starter, surprised many.

New general manager Dave Gettleman also decided after last season not to pick up the option on the final year of Flowers' rookie contract. The fact of the matter is that healthy offensive lineman don't usually become available in the middle of the season, which could make him a popular free agent.

As for his now-former head coach Pat Shurmur?

Despite several setbacks from Flowers, chosen including accusations that he quit on the team prior to their 2017 season finale against Washington (in which Flowers was listed as out with a groin injury), the Giants new regime kept their belief in him, moving him over to right tackle to open the 2018 season. "Sometimes a change of scenery is good for a person, and we're just hopeful he can go out and continue to have a good career".

Flowers started 48 regular-season games and one postseason game in three-plus seasons.
