US President Donald Trump has had a series of wins but can it last

The judge who made that recommendation to Roberts, Karen Le Craft Henderson, said in a letter that she was making this suggestion "because of the exceptional circumstance related to the above referenced complaints and the concern that local disposition may weaken public confidence in the process".

Chief Justice John Roberts is referring ethics complaints against new Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh to federal judges in Colorado and neighboring states.

Roberts assigned the complaints to the ethics council of the Denver-based 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals to deal with the complaints, according to a letter posted Wednesday on the D.C. Circuit's website.

It's unclear what will come of the review. "Any violation of the Code does not disappear because he is now on another federal court", Gillers said in an email.

CNN legal analyst Joan Biskupic said Brett Kavanaugh would be "changing the law of the land" for the next 20 years as the newest Associate Justice of the Supreme Court.

Discipline under those rules could have ranged from Kavanaugh getting a private talking-to by the chief judge on his circuit -Garland - to a suspension from hearing cases and even to a referral to the House of Representatives for possible impeachment proceedings. "Folks who feel very strongly one way or the other about the issues in front of us should get out and vote and participate".

The 53-year-old justice was sworn in on Saturday evening in a private ceremony at the Supreme Court.

The Kavanaugh confirmation has blown open the midterm elections from being a national referendum on Trump's stewardship to a raw emotional discussion over the lack of women in power and how to handle sexual misconduct allegations. Any member of the public can file a misconduct claim against a judge on the circuit where he sits, she noted.

This means that the complaints made against him are effectively confidential and can be dismissed without releasing the details of the complaints to the public.

Roberts' letter was sent to Judge Timothy Tymkovich, the 10th Circuit's chief judge.
