Opera House: Sydneysiders use torch lights to protest controversial racing promotion

The Chaser Projected Alan Jones Phone Number Onto Sydney Opera House

The Chaser project new ad onto Opera House as Jones apologises for Louise Herron interview

Protesters have targeted the planned projection of The Everest horse race colours and numbers onto the sails of the Sydney Opera House.

However, in a dramatic turn today, Racing NSW suspended all betting for the $13 million race from noon and announced the barrier draw would be conducted in confidence.

"The draw was done within our normal protocols on Tuesday morning and only myself and my deputy Philip Dingwall know the results", Racing NSW chief steward Marc Van Gestel said.

Hundreds of demonstrators flickered torches on Tuesday at the sails of Sydney's Opera House, aiming the light rays to disrupt horse-racing projected on its facade, in a protest against the use of the building to promote gambling.

Racing NSW said the decision to draw the results prior to tonight's event was "to circumvent any security risks that may exist".

The petition was delivered to state parliament on Tuesday with independent member for Sydney Alex Greenwich vowing to move a motion to try to remove the power of government to overrule Opera House management.

Political manipulator Jones, whose superpower is to be able to wrap gutless Liberal Party politicians around his little orifice, is behind the verbal bullying of Opera House CEO Louise Herron.

Betting on The Everest has been suspended as of midday Tuesday, with the revelation the barrier draw has been conducted but will only be made public on Tuesday night via the publicised Opera House projection. He cut her off immediately as she attempted to explain the heritage listing of the Opera House and then said he would be calling the Premier.

"Gave her a big talking to. you're allowed to project on there, that's the biggest billboard in Sydney, mate".

This morning on his radio show that targets "most people to die of natural causes in the next 12 months" (nice one SBS) Jones non-apologised to Ms Herron for his vile spew.

"It is the view of the Heritage Council that the use of the Opera House for the commercial advertising of this event is completely unsatisfactory and is an inappropriate use of this significant heritage place that is valued by many around the world", he said.
