Brees breaks NFL's all-time passing yards record

Brees's 75.6 passer rating in seven previous games against the Redskins was his lowest against any team and Washington was one of two opponents against which the Saints quarterback had thrown more career interceptions (12) than touchdowns (10).

The Redskins are scheduled to visit Philadelphia on Monday night in Week 13. They were outplayed and out-coached on national television, losing to the Saints 43-19.

Brees' teammates ran toward their quarterback as he jogged behind the play, and a group of them formed a jumping, celebrating mass of black and gold next to the Saints' fleur-de-lis emblem on the 50-yard line.

"Overall, our whole team played poorly and that's a reflection of myself", coach Jay Gruden said.

However, Peterson said after the defeat that he suffered a dislocated shoulder near the end of the first half.

Brees had 12,238 passing yards as a member of the then-San Diego Chargers from 2001-05, but his assault on the National Football League record books truly began when he joined the Saints as a free agent in 2006.

Earlier in the game, Peterson took a hit to the knee, but returned to play in the next series.

The offense wasn't as bad as the defense, but it was more by default than anything else.

The Redskins (2-2) next take on the Carolina Panthers on Sunday.

Later in the drive, quarterback Alex Smith and receiver Paul Richardson Jr. link up for 23 yards to put the Redskins in the red zone. "I don't have time to keep doing these videos for you".

Saints officials said Brees also would hand his uniform over to the Hall of Fame after the game. "He's in charge. I respect the head man in charge". Adrian Peterson, who spent the first part of last season with the Saints, said he planned to enjoy some beignets on this trip.

First, a Ryan Kerrigan sack, his first of the year, was all for naught as safety Montae Nicholson was called for an unnecessary roughness penalty after shoving a Saints lineman.

Washington gets a big break in the return of left tackle Trent Williams, who has played like one of the best players at his position leaguewide when healthy. "We deserved the penalty".
