The American Red Cross is holding at disaster-relief telethon Monday until 8 p.m.

Volunteers from the American Red Cross in the Black Hills area are offering their time and support to those on the East Coast as Hurricane Florence begins to cause devastation.

As the storm passes, the Red Cross is preparing to provide shelter for tens of thousands of people until they can return home or find other places to stay. They say that for every dollar you donate, 91 cents of that will go directly to relief efforts such as food, shelter and emotional support for those who have been impacted.

If you are interested in learning more about volunteering with the Red Cross, the North Alabama chapter of the Red Cross is hosting "Learn and Serve" sessions.

Crews in Florence are counting on aid and supplies in a disaster like this. Text FLORENCE to 20222 to send a donation, or go to for more information on how to help.
