Missy Elliott Surprises Fan Who Went Viral for Covering ''Work It''

Missy Elliott Surprises Fan Who Went Viral for Covering ''Work It''

Halsey said she's been singing the song for 15 years, and calling herself Elliott's "funky white sister" for the same amount of time.

Halsey appeared on "Ellen" on Thursday and told the story of her viral performance, which took place during an annual karaoke competition at Goddard Park in Rhode Island. She revealed that she's been performing the song during karaoke performances since 2003. & she has always used her platform to make others dreams come true like Mary Halsey who I must say is one of the sweetest souls I've met!

"First I want to thank Ellen for just being awesome she will always be blessed because of her HUGE Heart!,' Missy said on Instagram following the show". Upon finishing, the two, along with host Ellen DeGeneres, warmly hugged it out.

Sitting down for a chat, an overwhelmed Mary admitted: 'I can hardly just sit here, you've blown me away. "I never expected this", adding "I put it out there and said, 'You want to go viral?' But I never thought it would happen". Though Halsey was starstruck, she quickly regained her composure and finished the song with Elliott's arm around her. The best part about the performance, however, is that Halsey had no idea the rapper would be joining her. When I listen and she know all the words but the sound effects, she made the elephant noise and all of that... This might just be the most pure video on the internet.

Declaring herself "Missy's funky white sister", Halsey rapped a flawless rendition of the song during a karaoke barbecue.

See the performance below.
