Tony Finau has been named to the Ryder Cup team, the final pick by US captain Jim Furyk.

And that pick seems to be one of the toughest, coming down to either Tony Finau or Xander Schauffele.

Finau was one of a handful of USA players who joined Furyk on a trip to Le Golf National in July, prior to the Open Championship. "All the top-10 finishes, the play in the big championships and the majors, and then the current form, with a second, a fourth and an eighth".

"He has an unbelievable body of work this year", Jim Furyk, the United States captain, said.

The Americans, who haven't won in Europe since 1993, figure to add power and endurance with Finau, who filmed a message of reaction from a plane as he left Monday's final round of the PGA BMW Championship for a charity event in Utah. According to the Billy Horschel rule, however, Furyk still has one more pick to make this week.

Finau will be one of three Ryder Cup rookies for the USA, along with DeChambeau and Thomas. "Thanks for all the support", said Finau following the announcement.

Finau boosted his chances by joining a group that played at Le Golf National earlier this year. While he hasn't won yet this season, Finau has posted three runner-up finishes - including at The Northern Trust two weeks ago.

"The final Captain's Pick is in".

The eight players who qualified on Ryder Cup points are Rickie Fowler, Dustin Johnson, Brooks Koepka, Patrick Reed, Webb Simpson, Jordan Spieth, Justin Thomas, and Bubba Watson.

Regardless of which player is chosen for the final spot, the US should have a strong team heading into Paris.

The Ryder Cup takes place outside Paris from 28-30
September.

"I never thought I was on that team until I got that call", he said.
