Florence Now A Hurricane Moving Toward East Coast

The latest forecast has said the storm's winds have reached nearly 75 miles per hour (120 km/h), which means it is now at hurricane-strength. "Strengthening is forecast during the next few days, and Isaac is expected to become a hurricane by Monday, (September 10)", the DDM said.

The forecast cone for Hurricane Florence at 11 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 9, 2018. A state of emergency was declared in sc and Virginia to give officials and residents enough time to prepare for Florence if it hits the area.

Some swells generated by the storm have already been reported and can potentially cause unsafe surf conditions and rip currents.

"Do not focus on the exact track because impacts will be felt far away from the center", the National Weather Service said. His announcement followed on the heels of North Carolina's state of emergency, declared Friday night by Gov. Roy Cooper.

With the region now in Florence's projected path, weather officials are advising area residents to start making preparations. It will move between Bermuda and the Bahamas on Wednesday and Thursday, before approaching the southeastern USA coast, the NHC said in an advisory.

Florence's effects already were being felt in the Carolinas in the form of unsafe ocean swells, life-threatening rip currents and rough waves.

It is expected to regain hurricane strength as it nears Bermuda, although forecasters said it was too soon to tell where the storm would hit.

Virginia joined North and SC in declaring a state of emergency ahead of the storm, which is expected to be a major hurricane. "Florence is forecast to become a major hurricane on Monday". With that said, on the current path, there is the potential for Florence to stall, producing heavy rain over parts of the Mid Atlantic and Southeast US. Storm surge and freshwater flooding from rainfall could become life-threatening risks, especially from SC through the mid-Atlantic.

SC emergency management officials said they were "preparing for the possibility of a large-scale disaster".

Tropical Storm Isaac is churning towards the Windward Islands amid a forecast that it could become a hurricane before the end of the day.

The Navy said Saturday that it may be necessary to send ships in the Norfolk, Virginia, area out to sea because of the coming storm.

Two low pressure systems off the coast of Africa behind Florence also had high chances of developing into tropical storms, forecasters said.
