Priyanka Chopra's fans think she'd be a great fit for the franchise
Elba's name has been doing the rounds for years as fans of the long-running franchise ponder whether producers will cast the first non-white actor in the role.
The rumor mill began to turn again about Idris Elba being the next James Bond after director Antoine Fuqua brought up his name in a recent interview about the film.
Idris Elba, the next James Bond?
On Sunday, the star posted a series of cryptic tweets in which he poked fun at the idea.
On Friday, the United Kingdom tabloid the Daily Star published an article claiming that director Antoine Fuqua reportedly said his friend Bond series producer Barbara Broccoli thinks "it is time" for a black actor to star in the franchise.
The online version of the Daily Star's story includes multiple promotions for Fuqua's new business, selling headphones that can be worn in the cinema in order to provide a surround-sound experience. "You need a guy with physically strong presence".
A representative for Elba declined to comment, but a "knowledgeable source" said no one from Elba's team was "aware of any overtures".
Elba, 45, has previously said he thought he might be too old to play the legendary secret agent. However, the star addressed the rumors in a very similar tongue-in-cheek way on social media at that time as well.
