Maurizio Sarri warned Chelsea FC could become like Arsenal

Maurizio Sarri warned Chelsea FC could become like Arsenal

Part of that was down to the quality of Huddersfield's press, a positive sign for David Wagner's side after the more passive approach of last season, but Sarri's side didn't take care of the ball as well as their manager would've liked.

But German defender Rudiger was pleased the Spaniard's first appearance passed without incident following Thibault Courtois' controversial departure.

Rudiger was impressed, however, and said: "I think he (Kepa) did well". "He tried to speak as much as he can and he did well with that".

"I've seen the spirit, attitude and togetherness we need for our season".

"In general, it was a very good day".

'Maybe for Napoli in the a year ago it wouldn't have been a problem but for Chelsea, with some of the players only having had three days of training, it was a problem'.

Sarri is famed for getting the best out of his strikers, but said: "In Naples, we played at great speed, ball forward, ball back, with continuity, with great speed with the strikers".

"In his work he's very confident, but off the pitch he's a quiet guy".

With the first global break four weeks away, Sarri says that only now can he really get to work, as World Cup stars such as Eden Hazard, Olivier Giroud and N'Golo Kante returned to training just last week.

He said: "If money is the only thing that decides things, then we will be in the bottom three - but we were not in the bottom three last season". We did it better in the second, but in the second, there was more space and time. Three goals and a clean sheet.

"We have a quite good understanding", Rudiger added when asked about Luiz.

Former Napoli coach Sarri replaced Antonio Conte in a restless summer for the London club but any fears of an opening-day upset disappeared with goals from France worldwide N'Golo Kante, summer signing Jorginho and Pedro.

Chelsea beat Manchester City to Jorginho's signature in the summer, securing a reunion with Maurizio Sarri in London, and the midfielder looks like a force to be reckoned with.

At the other end, Huddersfield's debutant goalkeeper Ben Hamer, signed on a free transfer from Leicester, made a nervous start and twice put the home side under pressure with misplaced passes from his penalty area.
