First lady Melania Trump's parents were sworn in as US citizens in New York City on Thursday. Viktor was a vehicle dealer.
President Donald Trump's in-laws, Viktor and Amalija Knavs, took the oath of citizenship, Wildes said.
Wildes wouldn't comment on how the Knavs received their green cards or citizenship Thursday, but criticized the Trump administration's immigration policies to CNN.
"This golden experiment, these doors that are in America, remain hinged open to handsome people as they have today", Wildes said after the ceremony. "This is a very important example of it going right".
The first lady was not present for the ceremony, and her parents told their lawyer she was in Bedminster, New Jersey, where the president spends time in the summer at Trump National Golf Club.
The first lady's office declined to comment.
The idea that family-based immigration could be labeled as "dirty" might have a lot to do with the Knavs' son-in-law. He also called for eliminating a visa lottery program for people from countries underrepresented in the US.
Trump's plan, which Congress has resisted, would limit immigrants like his wife to sponsoring only their spouses and underage children to join them in the USA, not their parents, adult children or siblings.
Experts estimate those measures, so far resisted by Congress, would cut legal immigration into the U.S. almost in half.
The Knavses' citizenship ceremony was kept hush-hush around the Jacob K Javits Federal Building.
Asked if the Knavses had obtained citizenship through "chain migration", their lawyer said, "I suppose".
New citizens are normally minted on Fridays, they said, and often the ceremonies are held at the federal courthouse across the street.
The couple are natives of Slovenia, where they raised Melania, but have been in the United States for more than a decade, says their immigration lawyer, per CNBC.
The first lady was named Melanija Knavs when she was born in Slovenia but later changed her name to Melania Knauss when she began her modeling career.
She settled in NY in 1996, met the future president two years later and became his third wife in 2005. They married in 2005.
US President Donald Trump often rails against family-based immigration in his rallies, frequently reminding his audience of the October terror attack in NY, where Sayfullo Saipov, an immigrant from Uzbekistan plowed a pickup truck down a bike lane, killing eight people near the World Trade Center.
