'Lock your doors': At least four dead in Canada shooting

Active situation: Shooting leaves four dead in F

At least four people have been killed in a shooting in eastern Canada, police have confirmed.

Announcing that officers had one suspect in custody via Twitter, the force added: "Police continue to have the Brookside area contained for the foreseeable future as the investigation is ongoing".

Toronto, Canada's largest city, has had 241 shooting incidents this year, resulting in 30 deaths, a 30 percent increase in fatalities. "We will provide more details as soon as we can", city police tweeted.

New Brunswick had only three homicide shootings in 2016, according to Statistics Canada.

Police said there is no further threat and people do not need to remain locked down.

The shooter was identified as Faisal Hussain, 29.

MacCoubrey said police had searched the buildings and went through his apartment.

CTV said Moore reported that "police escorted people from their homes" after announcing a suspect was in custody.

The Fredericton Firefighters Association was asking people on Facebook not to use social media to report on police locations.

"Fredericton Police are responding Brookside Drive area". Nearby facilities were closed and authorities told residents to stay locked in their homes.

Tim Morehouse, another resident of the complex, said he heard someone shout: "Shut up!"

Fredericton has a population of about 58,000 and is located just northeast of Maine. "It was sort of like a pop, pop, pop, pop", he said. Stay inside, lock your doors.
