The Israeli authorities said that Israeli military came under fire from Gaza, followed by a tank, the Israeli military opened fire on the checkpoint crews "Izzedine al-Qassam" in Northern Gaza.

The military said the tank responded to shots fired at soldiers from the post.

"Targeting Abu-Hussein and Murtaja was a clear example of the flagrant Israeli violations against Palestinian journalists", the report said. One Israeli soldier was killed by a Gaza sniper during this period.

The incident took place amid Egyptian efforts to broker a cease-fire between Israel and the Palestinian militant group, which controls the coastal strip. It then cuts to footage of a shell hitting the post and an explosion.

Ezzeddine al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas, for its part, said that the two Palestinians were Abdulhafeth Silawi 23, and Ahmad Murjan 23 from the Jabalia camp in the northern Gaza strip and they belong to the brigades.

Israel says Hamas, which rules Gaza, is using the protests as cover to carry out cross-border attacks.

It said Israel was "fabricating lies" and that it bore responsibility for the deaths.

Since Palestinian protests and clashes along the Gaza border erupted at the end of March, at least 160 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli fire.

Israel has lost tracts of farmland and forest to fires started by kites and helium balloons laden with incendiary material which have caused fires in Israeli forests and farmlands and flown over the border by Palestinians in Gaza.

Gaza's Islamist rulers Hamas have fought three wars with Israel since 2008.
