Chase Elliott (9) leads Kyle Busch (18) during a NASCAR Cup series auto race, Sunday, Aug. 5, 2018, in Watkins Glen, N.Y. Seven-time champion Jimmie Johnson wound up using his vehicle to push Elliott to his first victory celebration.

Toss in the raucous cheers of the sellout crowd and it doesn't get much better than that.

"I just appreciate the support and the respect on the race track", Elliott said. We ran out of gas on the last lap anyway, so I guess it wouldn't have mattered. "Certainly glad that we were on the front end today".

Chase Elliott won the Go Bowling at The Glen on Sunday afternoon at Watkins Glen International for his first career NASCAR Monster Energy Cup Series win. That stage win was over Kyle Busch, who like Truex, is one of the members of the season's Big 3. "Chase (Elliott) has ran a handful of races for the team so I figured I would give it a shot at Road America". It was a two-car breakaway as the rest of the field was more than 11 seconds back. Truex closed within in a couple vehicle lengths of Elliott with 10 laps to go, but faded back in the final circuits. But Truex's No. 78 Toyota skidded, Elliott regrouped and pulled away and Truex sputtered home, out of fuel. I couldn't get it and I was sideways. "I could catch him, but just trying to get close I would get loose".

"I still expect the same cars to be fast, " Logano said. Bell became the first series driver since Dale Earnhardt Jr.in 1999 to win three straight with a victory last week at Iowa. His Joe Gibbs Racing teammates, Erik Jones and Daniel Suarez, rounded out the top-five.

Other Notables: #14 Clint Bowyer P11, #12 Ryan Blaney P12, #11 Denny Hamlin P13, #88 Alex Bowman P14, #2 Brad Keselowski P17, #31 Ryan Newman P19, #10 Aric Almirola P22, #43 Bubba Wallace Jr P25, #3 Austin Dillon P27, #21 Paul Menard P28, #48 Jimmie Johnson P30, #22 Joey Logano P37.

"It's way too soon for that", Hamlin, who won at The Glen two years ago, said when asked if his effort was a step toward closing the gap with the three drivers at the top.

"You feel satisfied", Elliott said. "We were getting closer, closer, closer and finally got it done".

Midway through the segment, the Big 3 of Busch, Truex and Kevin Harvick were running in the top 10, but Elliott dominated and beat Busch by 1.3 seconds.

Busch's day was ruined when Matt DiBenedetto brought out a caution just past the midpoint of the race.
