Huawei smartphone sales reach all time high, surpassing Apple

Analysts say Huawei was successful in launching smartphones in the premium segment and capturing the mid-tier segment

That's despite a 10.4 percent decline from past year.

Samsung will launch its Galaxy Note 9 flagship soon to counter the string of premium segment launches by its competitors and to gain some momentum before the launch of the new iPhone in September.

Nokia HMD, OnePlus, Tecno, Xiaomi, Infinix and Huawei were the key fast-growing brands for the quarter.

We reported about the Q2 2018 global smartphone shipments data from Counterpoint Research yesterday. While it enjoys lucrative smartphone sales and increasing brand recognition in the European and Asian market, the Chinese company is still struggling to establish a foothold in the US. Meanwhile, Cupertino, California-based Apple shipped about 41.3 million units in Q2, securing a modest 0.7% growth over the year-ago period and missing the Street's forecasts for 41.8 million devices for the quarter.

Its shipments grew 41% annually in Q2 2018. He said the company is manufacturing all its smartphones in India and setting up its own R&D centre in India to customise for the Indian market. The IDC report claims that Huawei's GPU Turbo technology fared pretty well in terms of marketing, as it helped the brand achieve the stupendous sales figure.

"The continued growth of Huawei is impressive, to say the least, as is its ability to move into markets where, until recently, the brand was largely unknown", he said. "We expect store counts to increase in the future", Pathak noted, as reported by IANS. Samsung sold more than 70 million phones last quarter, down about 10% from the same time previous year. Motorola's popularity in Latin America ensured it finished eighth. They account for 42% of market share controlled by the top10. "Many high growth markets still exist and should return smartphone shipments to overall growth".

The Chinese smartphone maker now occupies second place among the world's smartphone vendors, leaving Apple (aapl) to tumble into third position - the first time it has been there for seven years. Honor's goal is to be the 5th global brand by 2020.

Tecno entered the global top 10 smartphone shipments ranking for the first time. However, the brand still managed to increase its YoY shipments by 5.1 percent, and continued its expansion in other markets like the Middle East and Africa. In the first half of this quarter, Huawei's P20/P20 Pro series found strong demand in the $600-$800 price segment, helping Huawei build a high profile in the market.
