Falcon 9 lifts off in a veil of fog

New satellites will replace outdated equipment

Falcon 9 с десятью спутниками запущена с космодрома в Калифорнии

Prior to the launch, Reserve Citizen Airmen from the 920th Rescue Wing, nearby at Patrick Air Force Base, took off in an HH-60G Pave Hawk helicopter to secure the Eastern Range ensuring there was no one in harm's way while the rocket lifted off. In order to catch the fairing, the network on the ship Mr. Steven has increased four times. The company also intends to "catch" in a special grid mounted on the ship Mr Steven, the nose cone of the rocket. "These conditions are the worst, which was when trying to land the first stage on an automatic platform", he told reporters portal Space.com the representative of the company Ilona Mask. "We've come a long way, and we are particularly excited to see the financial transformation enabled by the completion of the Iridium NEXT system and the associated drop in capital expenditures". Only one more launch of 10 satellites remains until the Iridium NEXT network is completed.

One by one, the satellites took their place in Iridium's next-generation constellation, created to provide enhanced broadband services across the globe. "We have choppy seas, so today's landing attempt is going to be very iffy", said SpaceX spokesperson John Insprucker during the launch stream. "Ten for 10, a clean sweep again", Insprucker declared. This is the seventh set of satellites in a series of 75 total satellites that SpaceX will launch for Iridium's next generation global satellite constellation, Iridium® NEXT.

The launch happened just before 4:40 a.m. and was visible from Southern California's coastal areas. This was SpaceX's 14th launch of the year with the company flying a new "Block 5 Booster".

The fairing recovery is part of SpaceX's goal of reducing launch costs by reusing as many parts of a rocket as possible.
