Area MPP leading Tory rollback of Ontario sex-ed curriculum

Progressive Conservative house leader Todd Smith says the government will act quickly on all three items because they are time sensitive and can not wait until the fall, when the house normally returns.

That includes the Ontario Institute for Catholic Education, which works on behalf of the Assembly of Catholic Bishops of Ontario and coordinates the Catholic school system's "Fully Alive" program, providing students with sex-ed content.

The strike at York University has been underway since March and during the election the Tories said they would use back-to-work legislation to end the labour dispute.

The PCs say the project received approval to proceed during the election period.

"Doug Ford cares more about the favours that he owes to social conservatives than he does about keeping our young people safe", said the NDP leader, arguing that Ford was aiming to please those who helped him win the party leadership earlier this year.

Ontario Premier Doug Ford's first throne speech repeated a number of his campaign promises - ending cap-and-trade, eliminating the updated sexual education program put in place by the previous Liberal government, and cleaning up Hydro One. "To overcome these challenges, we must challenge the status quo, reject the old compromises and embrace change", the throne speech said.

"These three priorities send a clear and serious message about what you can expect from our government", said Smith. "We're going to keep our promises".

Smith also denied opposition accusations that the government has been inaccessible and making too many decisions quietly behind closed doors with Ford himself shying away from taking questions from media. "To take us backwards, to take us into a race to the bottom and pull us into the last century, that's what this throne speech says to me".

"Your new government will respect consumers and trust adults to make the responsible choices that work best for them". I was given one exemption.

"We are ending the deadlocked strike at York University so students can get back to school". "It's a signal that he not only doesn't care about climate change, but he doesn't care about investing in Ontario, dealing our energy needs and dealing with the needs in our schools".
