Trump interrupted CNN'sJim Acosta as he attempted to ask a question during a press conference with U.K. Prime Minister Theresa May. Acosta several times asked if he could pose a question, but Trump instead called on Fox News White House correspondent John Roberts.
"Can I ask you a question", Acosta continued.
Roberts thanked Trump and posed a question, which caused CNN's Jake Tapper to chastize Roberts in a tweet for not defending Acosta. He then called on John Roberts of Fox, saying, "Let's go to a real network".
British reporters also caught heat from the USA leader, with Trump chastising The Sun for cutting out all the praise he had heaped on May from a sensationalist interview published Thursday. "To issue a blanket condemnation of the network as "fake news" is ... unfair".
Trump's latest invocation of "fake news" put Murdoch's media empire on two continents in the position of having to tell their readers and viewers that the president's characterization of one of their sister outlets was, as the British like to say, bollocks. The interview, however, was recorded.
"The president called out one of my colleagues, Kristen Welker of NBC News, as dishonest, he said NBC News was dishonest", he said.
Welker asked him whether his widely reported criticism of May, and his barbs aimed earlier in the week at North Atlantic Treaty Organisation allies, served to give Russian President Vladimir Putin the "upper hand" ahead of Monday's leader-to-leader summit. "Of course, it happens to be NBC, which is possibly worse than CNN". I also used to work at CNN. She is honest as the day is long. After Kristen Welker asked him whether he was giving Russian President Vladimir Putin the "upper hand", given Trump's criticisms of North Atlantic Treaty Organisation, he said, "You see, that is such dishonest reporting". "I didn't criticize the prime minister", Trump falsely claimed. "There are some fine journalists who work there and risk their lives to report on stories around the world", Roberts said.
He said he only proceeded with his question after "it became clear that the president wasn't going to entertain a question from" Acosta.
"I said very nice things about her", he said. Roberts, sitting next to him, playfully doffed the hat to reveal Mason's bald head. "You see, that is such dishonest reporting", Trump said.
