From HBO hits like "Game of Thrones", "Barry", and "Westworld" to FX's "Atlanta" to Netflix's "Glow", a wide range of shows garnered nominations this year.

While HBO received 108 nominations this year, only three fewer than last year, Netflix had a total of 112 nominations - up from 91 last year.

That Amazon streaming series was created by "Gilmore" mastermind Amy Sherman-Palladino, who is now nominated for Best Comedy Series, Best Comedy Writing and Best Comedy Directing for her work on the new show. In three Emmy categories, minority actors account for more than half the nominees: Supporting actor in a limited series or movie, guest actor in a comedy series and guest actress in a drama series. And Alex Borstein, who had a recurring role on "Gilmore Girls", is nominated for Best Comedy Supporting Actress for "Maisel" too. "I share this moment with my community", Oh said in a statement.

The last time there were no freshman dramas in the top category was 2009 when sophomore Mad Men won its second straight best series title.

Donald Glover's "Atlanta" was the top comedy nominee with 16 bids, poised to take advantage of this year's absence of three-time victor "Veep". She added a postscript: "I think my mother at this moment may actually be satisfied".

It's Emmy nominations time, which means that about.000001 percent of the world is happy with all the choices while the rest of us are tossing chairs and frantically searching for the keys to the pitchfork closet.

The Handmaid's Tale was one of the big winners with 20 nominations overall. The actor who portrays Paper Boi, Brian Tyree Henry, was nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actor In A Comedy Series and Zazie Beetz, who plays Van on the show, was nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress In A Comedy Series.

Competing with Moss, Oh and Russell for lead drama actress are Claire Foy for "The Crown", Tatiana Maslany of "Orphan Black" and Evan Rachel Wood of "Westworld".
