Still to be determined is whether the PGA Tour will change the structure for the FedEx Cup, and how this new schedule will work in 2020 when the Olympics are in Japan from July 24 to August 9.

This year will be the last year of the 3M Championship as a PGA Tour Champions event beginning July 30.

Aon is both the official risk, retirement and health advisor of the PGA Tour and the official professional services firm of the LPGA.

Liberty National Golf Club in Jersey City, N.J. will host The Northern Trust in 2019, before it shifts to TPC Boston in Norton, Mass., in 2020.

The season resumes in January with the Tournament of Champions in Hawaii, features The Players Championship shifting to March from May to avoid the PGA Championship and again sees the Masters open the major schedule April 11-14. "This will enhance the visibility of the FedEx Cup playoffs and overall fan engagement with the PGA Tour and the game as a whole".

"It's been our stated objective for several years to create better sequencing of our tournaments that golf fans around the world can engage in from start to finish", said PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan.

The PGA Tour is expected to announce a revamped playoff format later this year.

"And by concluding at the end of August, the FedEx Cup playoffs no longer have the challenge of sharing the stage with college and professional football". Then there is considerable change from past years.

Scheduled for May 13-19, 2019, at Bethpage State Park's Black Course (above), the PGA Championship will be the second major played in the 2019 tournament schedule, five weeks after the Masters Tournament and five weeks before the U.S. Open. The other World Golf Championships are the Mexico Championship (Mexico City, Mexico), the Dell Technologies Match Play (Austin, Texas) and the HSBC Champions (Shanghai, China).

The RBC Canadian Open moves a week before the U.S. Open, held next year at Pebble Beach.

The WGC will play in Akron, Ohio, for the final time next month as the event moves to Memphis for the WGC St. Jude Invitational, replacing a regular tour event, next July.

The new agreement begins in 2019 and goes through 2023.
