Reports: Group beats 92-year-old man with brick and spews racist slurs

‘Go back to your own country.’ 92-year-old man beaten with a brick, L.A. cops say | The Sacramento Bee

Rodolfo Rodriguez was visiting Los Angeles, Calif. from Mexico on July 4 when he was hit several times in the face with a brick and stomped on, leaving him with two broken ribs, a broken cheekbone and bruising throughout his body, FOX11 reported.

Rodolfo Rodriguez was out on his regular evening stroll when he reportedly bumped into a young girl walking on the sidewalk.

LASD tells FOX 11 they are investigating this case and they believe Rodriguez was attacked from behind.

Bystanders then called the police.

Erik Mendoza, Rodriguez's grandson, tells KTLA the woman in the video pushed his grandpa to the ground and then started beating him with a brick. As of early Tuesday the GoFundMe page had garnered nearly $156,000 in donations from more than 5,000 people. "He is doing really bad, has a lot of bruises on his face and a broken cheekbone".

'Who would do this to anybody?' Mendoza told via KCBS. 'A 92-year-old senior citizen, what can he do to anybody? The witness told the Sacramento Bee that the mother told Rodriguez: 'Go back to your country, why are you here?'

Borjas had been driving by, she said, and wanted to stop, but the woman threatened to hit her vehicle with the brick. "He's 92 years of age".

Rodriguez said he was walking to a nearby park on Wednesday when he passed a woman and a little girl.

"We are concerned, especially with the type of crime they committed", LA County Sheriff's Deputy D'Angelo Robinson told KTLA.

Rodriguez, who was interviewed by investigators, doesn't remember much about the incident, but he was able to identify his alleged attacker in the video.

A neighbor tried to get the group to stop the assault and began recording on her cell phone.

A GoFundMe account set up of for Rodriguez raised more than $30,000 of its $15,000 goal to help the grandfather cover medical costs. "There's no harm that he meant for you to treat him the way you did". A video was taken by a witness showing a woman who appears to be African American with a brick in her hand.

"We just lost our son", she said in Spanish through tears, "and to see him like this was unbearable". Police are now looking for a female suspect and three to four males.
