Conte has clashed with Chelsea staff over when their players should return for training
Chelsea have completed their first sessions of pre-season training, and amazingly, have done so under the watchful eye of Antonio Conte.
The 59-year-old Italian was tipped to take over from his compatriot at Stamford Bridge after Chelsea failed to qualify for UEFA Champions League football after finishing fifth. More embarrassingly, Chelsea suffered humiliating defeats to Newcastle, Watford, and Bournemouth which put manager Antonio Conte's job on the line.
Conte is still now in charge, but Maurizio Sarri is expecting to be cleared to replace him as manager of Chelsea at the start of next week.
Napoli find themselves in a unique situation, with them still working on compensation for Maurizio Sarri, despite new manager Carlo Ancelotti having started work as the club's new manager at the beginning of the month.
Sarri guided Napoli to a 2 place finish in the Serie A last season nearly winning the Italian title but the Partenopei replaced him with Carlo Ancelotti.
On July 7, Chelsea's players who did not compete in the World Cup gathered once more at their Cobham training ground to start their pre-season work.
Conte is also refusing to step down from his role in order to avoid giving up his own severance package should Chelsea sack him, with one year still remaining on his contract.
Conte is renowned for his highly vigorous approach to approach to preseason and several Chelsea players have publicly admitted to struggling with his gruelling summer programmes, though weeks of double sessions at Cobham provided the foundation for the club's surprise run to the Premier League title in the 2016-17 campaign.
