Fans celebrate England's quarter-finals win over Sweden

World Cup 2018 Beers And Cheers As England Fans Go Wild Over Win

England have enjoyed a fantastic campaign and, following Saturday's 2-0 defeat of Sweden, only Croatia stand between Southgate's men and Sunday's final in Moscow.

"I've met quite a few of those players and we know exactly how they're held and perhaps in the modern era that would be even crazier, social media and everything else, the global thing is so much bigger", Southgate said.

Just four teams remain, all of them from Europe: Belgium, France, Croatia, and England.

"We've talked about the team which won". "How they're still held and revered".

There are a few familiar faces: Simon Rodger, who went on to play nearly 300 games for Palace, is in the middle row with the shock of blond hair; Chris Powell, who played for England and is now managing Southend, is in the middle; and, on the front row, sitting next to me, is Gareth Southgate.

The 76-year-old - who scored a hat-trick in the final at Wembley against West Germany - told the Sun newspaper that Southgate had fostered an impressive spirit of togetherness in the squad.

Nevertheless Rowe, a devoted England fan who has spent around £50,000 (US$ $66,500) to follow England over the past two decades, will wear his £65 Marks and Spencer waistcoat again on Wednesday.

"This squad doesn't have those type of players, they are all of a similar level".

"Gareth, good luck. Stick to what you're doing, I'm behind you", he added.

The coach of the 1998 side, Jaroslav Ciro Blazevic, said for a long time he did not want any other team to match his players' achievements.

"It's a great opportunity", the England defender said.

"Croatia look a very good team, (they have) very good players in (Luka) Modric and (Ivan) Rakitic, they look a unsafe side".

"Until five or six years ago I was bit vain, and in a way glad that in 1998 we set the bar so high that it was hard to even contemplate, let alone jump over it".
