Confirming the completion of the rescue operation, the Thai Navy Seals Facebook page announced: "All 12 Wild Boars and coach have been extracted from the cave".

Three members of the SEAL unit and an army doctor, who has stayed with the boys since they were found, were the last people due to come out of the cave, the unit said.

Members of the trapped soccer team in a section of Tham Luang cave. A massive worldwide search operation was launched and it took 10 days to locate the boys, who had taken shelter on a dry slope deep in the complex. But rescue officials were also anxious about dwindling oxygen levels in the cave.

Mr Narongnsak said this phase may take longer than the previous two rescue missions. That left four boys and their 25-year-old coach still in the cave.

As a youth soccer team is gradually evacuated from a flooded cave complex in northern Thailand, Hollywood producers are already eyeing a new box office smash.

But at a Tuesday press conference they were optimistic about the progress of the "Wild Boars" to emerge so far, in two long and complex days of operations to free them.

All eight boys rescued on the first two days are being treated in an isolation ward in a Chiang Rai hospital.

The latest rescue operation began at about 10.08am local time (1.08pm AEST). Medical officials told reporters Tuesday that they're healthy, fever-free, mentally fit and "seem to be in high spirits".

Chiang Rai Gov. Narongsak Osatanakorn says the rescue mission began at 10.08 a.m. and involves 19 divers.

He said a medic and three Seals in the cave, who have been looking after those trapped, will also come out.

Authorities are keeping the rescued boys away from their parents for fear of infection.

Dr Jesada said that when the first four arrived they went through all the necessary health checks including blood tests, lung X-rays, heart, eye and mental tests.

Scott and co-producer Adam Smith have reportedly been conducting interviews around the rescue site, where more than 1,000 Thai personnel have been joined by dozens of global specialists for the operation. However, Dr. Jesada Chokedamrongsuk of the Thai ministry of public health said the boys will not be able to make the trip, reported Channel News Asia. Workers have been laboring around the clock to pump water out of the cave, and authorities said Monday that heavy downpours overnight did not raise water levels inside.

They became trapped after heavy rains caused flooding.

The rescuers have been learning from experience and were two hours faster in bringing out the second batch of survivors on Monday.

So far eight of the boys have been rescued.

Elon Musk visited the flooded Thailand cave to offer a "kid-sized" submarine to help with the rescue - only to be told his technology wasn't "practical" to the mission. Musk shared photographs on Twitter Tuesday morning that appeared to show him visiting the cave site.

He posted photos of the cave interior and a video showing people working their way through chest-high water. The children reportedly wore full-faced masks while clinging to the bodies of rescue divers. Rescue efforts were then suspended for up to 20 hours because they had used up all the oxygen and needed to replenish supplies.

At the Mae Sai Prasitsart school, where six of the 12 boys studied, the principal and teachers said they promised to give the boys a lighter homework load once they are back in class.
