Tiger Woods & Phil Mickelson $10 Million Match: Full Story

According to Golf.com's Alan Shipnuck, the two were in discussions with television networks and corporate sponsors about a winner-take-all, $10 million, prime-time head-to-head match, with an original target date of July 3 in Las Vegas.

Plans to stage the made-for-television event on July 3 in Las Vegas fell through, according to the report, but representatives for 14-time major champion Woods and five-time major victor Mickelson remain committed to making it happen.

Woods, who has been looking back to his best in recent months following a long term back problem, played a practise round with Mickleson at the Masters which brought in a lot of interest.

"We're working on a different date", said Mickelson. "I thought it was done for the third, but obviously it wasn't".

Woods's representatives declined to comment.

"A "$10 million winner-take-all, 18-hole death match" is how it's being billed by Golf.com, and it's got the sport's two highest-profile "frenemies" vying for the kitty. The pair have a "shared vision" to play a few exhibition matches a year, around the world. "And the fact that this isn't an official tournament, that it's just a head-to-head match, you'll hear some of the little nuances, some of the little things that you don't normally pick up". Mickelson even suggested that this could be the beginning of a tour where he faces Woods in multiple one-on-one exhibitions each year.

"I'm definitely not against that".

The two would play a one-on-one, 18-hole match that nets the victor $10 million.

Now there's reportedly a good chance that we could be treated to a match play event where those two players could sort out their rivalry face-to-face. Mickelson has openly said that the two probably should have always gotten along this well, but they've "turned the corner".

One thing is certain: If and when negotiations get completed, this will be a fun and unique experience for golf fans everywhere.

Could Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson become the next Arnie and Jack?

"We're at the tail end of our careers [and] we both know that".
