Guard Devin Booker has signed a five-year, $158 million maximum contract extension with the Phoenix Suns, league sources told Yahoo Sports. "Devin and the team both wanted to extend this agreement with the club as long as we possibly could".
Though his questionable defense may raise eyebrows about the deal, securing Booker appears to have been an important step for the Suns.
Booker, 21, said he was "humbled and honored" to make a long-term commitment to the Suns.
"I look at Marvin's all-around game", Kings general manager Vlade Divac told reporters after the draft.
Booker, 21, has rapidly developed into the Suns' cornerstone star and the franchise's hope to lead it out of the lottery and back to the National Basketball Association playoffs.
Booker averaged 24.9 points, 4.5 rebounds and 4.7 assists per game last season, making him one of 9 players in the league and the youngest to average at least 24 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists per game.
He was drafted with the number 13 pick three years ago and it has proven to be a smart decision by the Arizona-based outfit.
This was perfectly illustrated by his historic 70-point performance against the Boston Celtics in the 2016-17 season.
Booker, 21, is one of the NBA's elite young scorers and his extension cements his status as a major piece of the Suns' franchise.
The future is certainly bright for the Suns and with their star player on board for the long haul, things will surely get better soon.
