Elsewhere in the tropical Atlantic, Beryl - once a hurricane - has weakened substantially on approach to the Lesser Antilles.

According to the 5:00 a.m. advisory, the center of Tropical Storm Beryl was located near latitude 13.7 North, longitude 56.0 West. Beryl is moving toward the west-northwest near 20 miles per hour (31 km/h) and this motion with an increase in forward speed is expected during the next couple of days. A man died in the rough surf in Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina, on Saturday, when Chris was still a tropical depression.

At 11a.m. Tropical Storm Beryl was located about 130 miles or 210 kilometres northeast of Barbados. It is now a minimal tropical storm, with peak winds of 40 miles per hour.

The Tropical Storm Watch for Barbados has therefore been discontinued. The storm poses no threat to land, but forecasters expect it to become a hurricane on Monday.

A disorganized Tropical Storm Beryl was closing in on the chain of islands that form the outer perimeter of the Caribbean, where it was expected to bring tropical storm conditions to the islands of Guadeloupe and Dominica on Sunday night.

No coastal watches or warnings are effect because of Chris.

As Chris continues to strengthen, Tropical Storm Beryl is dispersing as it "races" towards the Leeward Islands in the northeastern Caribbean Sea, according to the National Hurricane Center.

Tuesday a weak area of high pressure could move over Acadiana dropping rain chances down to about 20-30% but every other day this week rain chances will be up around 40-60% during the afternoon hours.

Tropical storm conditions are possible in Dominica and Guadeloupe tonight, the NHC said.

Rains of up to five inches are possible in the Leeward Islands, the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico through Tuesday, according to the NHC.
