The Marvel sequel - starring Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly - opened with US$76 million (RM307 milion) from 4,206 North American locations. Incredibles 2 made $29 million at the United States box office this weekend, bring its domestic box office total to $504 million.
"Ant-Man and the Wasp" easily topped the weekend, as fellow box office newcomer "The First Purge" scared up $17 million from 3,031 theaters. Ant-Man and the Wasp is the first Marvel project featuring a female superhero's name in the title and female superhero in a lead role. That could make it hard to surpass the $180 million domestic run of the original Ant-Man, which had some impressive legs, but only time will tell. The film is on track to earn over $82 million, which as Deadline reports, is over 40% more than the original earned its opening weekend.
The sequel had the biggest debut in Korea with $20.9 million, followed by Mexico with $6.7 million, and Indonesia with $5.6 million. Future openings include a July 18 release in France followed by Germany (7/26), United Kingdom (8/2), Italy (8/14) and Japan (8/31). So far, Incredibles 2 has made $773 million at the worldwide box office. The dinosaur blockbuster, which just crossed the $1 billion mark at the global box office, has earned $725 million from overseas alone. Unfortunately, the film also saw a steep 30 percent decline from Friday to Saturday, explaining the lowered opening weekend estimate.
Overseas, "Ant-Man and the Wasp" collected $85 million, bringing the worldwide opening to $161 million.
Coming in third is Universal and Amblin's Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, which brought in an estimated $28.5 million for the three-day weekend and has now pushed its domestic cume to $333.3 million as it begins its third week in release. The studio has had a string of box office hits in 2018 with Avengers: Infinity War racking up over US$2 billion and counting, and Black Panther passing US$1.3 billion globally. That means the movie might not have long legs at the box office. The horror prequel was only able to rake in $17 million. "It's the fourth in a franchise that they happen to keep very relevant", he said. The First Purge actually opened on July 4, and pulled in $31 million from Wednesday to Sunday.
It also speaks to audiences.
"The First Purge" debuted with $32 million over the five-day frame, and $18.5 million for the weekend. The movie had a $33.8 million opening day and a $11.5 million Thursday night preview launch, which accounts for $45.3 million (well over half) of the opening weekend.

Sebastian Vettel spoils Lewis Hamilton's Silverstone party
Shocker: Kimi Raikkonen's clumsy move on the inside of Lewis Hamilton led to contact which changed the complexion of the race. I, at least, would struggle to be that precise and take somebody out. "In France I lost my wing so I screwed my own race.
