For the design language, Suzuki has gone back to the boxy look from the first and second generation Jimny, instead of the curvier third generation iteration. It measures 3,395 mm in length, 1,475 mm in width and up to 1,715 mm in height.

Inside, there's a much more up to date influence with a modern dashboard layout. However, the overall design remains chunky, with function favoured over form, to enable users to operate controls and buttons even while wearing gloves.

A seven-inch touchscreen with Bluetooth is available on higher equipment grades, although full United Kingdom specs and prices are still to be confirmed.

Inside, the vehicle comes with 377 litres of boot space - 53 litres more than in the last model - and all the materials used make it easy to maintain if it gets dirty.

Just one engine has been confirmed for the European market. The Jimny Sierra uses a version of the 2018 Suzuki Ertiga's new K15B 1.5-litre petrol engine.

Power will come from a 1.5 litre petrol engine, which Suzuki promise will offer enough torque low down for sticky off-road situations. However, it's also lighter and neater packaging means it's smaller too. There will be two transmissions to choose from, a five-speed manual and a four-speed automatic with low-range gearing of 2.002 and 2.644, respectively.

Economy figures are pegged at 41.5mpg and 37.6mpg for the manual and automatic respectively, with Carbon dioxide figures of 154g/km and 170g/km. The Suzuki Jimny has been priced in a range of 14,58,000-19,06,200 JPY (Rs 9.08 lakh to Rs 11.87 lakh), whereas the Jimny Sierra has will be available at 17,60,400-20,62,800 JPY (Rs 10.94 lakh to Rs 12.82 lakh). Short overhangs front and rear make for an approach angle of 37 degrees and a departure angle of 49 degrees. Adding to the off-road character of the Jimny, the rear axle of the mini-SUV benefits from three-link suspension with coil springs. On the front of safety features, the new Jimny gets forward braking assist, six airbags, lane departure warning, weaving alert, ESP and ABS.

Suzuki says the new model is scheduled to arrive in Australia during the end of this year, with full sales and deliveries to commence during the first quarter of next year.
