Parker, who had become an unrestricted free agent this summer, called Spurs coach Gregg Popovich in the last hour to inform him of decision to accept Charlotte's offer, a source told Wojnarowski. In addition, Parker's public complaints about Leonard's injury were reportedly the last straw for Leonard, who now wants out of San Antonio.

The Charlotte Hornets have a deal in principle to sign Frenchman Tony Parker as their veteran backup to point guard Kemba Walker, an National Basketball Association source confirmed to the Observer. It was believed that the 17-year veteran hoped to stay in San Antonio and remain with the team he's played for his entire professional career.

The Hornets have been searching for a backup point guard behind Kemba Walker and were one of the five or six teams that were reportedly interested in Parker.

Parker said he never had any issues with Spurs star Kawhi Leonard - who missed almost all of last season due to a lingering quad injury.

Parker won four championships and was a six-time All-Star for the Spurs.

Parker is the third player in National Basketball Association history to play at least 17 seasons with one team before leaving.

"I have no problem with Kawhi Leonard", Parker said to ESPN. Parker willingly gave up his starting role to youngster Dejounte Murray last season. Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reported that Parker "quarterbacked" a player's only meeting to implore Leonard to return to their lineup in March 2018. He averaged 7.7 points and 5.7 assists per game during that season.

Parker has also appeared in 17 consecutive postseasons; only Karl Malone and John Stockton's run of 19 straight playoff trips are longer. He did not coach in Games 3, 4 or 5 (Spurs assistant coach Ettore Messina handled those duties) vs.
