Thai Cave Boys Rescue

He said: "Maybe worth trying; insert a 1m diameter nylon tube (or shorter set of tubes for most hard sections) through cave network & inflate wth air like bouncy castle".

In a message posted on Twitter, Musk said he imagines local authorities have a handle on the situation, but said he's willing to offer the services of his companies if they'd help.

In a statement to BBC, a spokesperson for The Boring Company said the company will offer more details once it works out with the Thai government what would be most helpful. After Puerto Rico was devastated by a massive hurricane a year ago, Musk sent Tesla Powerwall batteries and offered solar services to help rebuild the island's electrical grid. Over the years, he has also used social media to respond to worldwide disasters. The approach would require much less power than pumping water out of the cave chambers.

The boys were discovered alive nine days after being declared missing, and rescuers are now racing against time to get them out.

As Musk himself notes, his back-of-the-envelope calculations might not fit the realities of the scenario, which is why his engineers are heading to the location in person. 2nd & 3rd would need battery packs, air pumps & tubes.

The tech entrepreneur has taken to Twitter suggesting an underwater air tube which could be created for the children to crawl through.

Presently, the most likely option for the group's rescue involves waiting for water levels to recede, or teaching the boys how to dive so they can be guided out safely.

"Boring Co. has advanced ground penetrating radar (and) is pretty good at digging holes", Musk tweeted.

Mr Musk, who is the co-founder, chairman, product architect and chief executive of Tesla, declared that the firm was finally "a real auto company" after reaching the goal.
