Beryl becomes first hurricane of season

Beryl becomes the first hurricane of the 2018 Atlantic Hurricane Season
However, the NHC is also warning that changes to Beryl's intensity will be "difficult to predict" due to its small size.
The Category 1 storm on Friday morning was about 1,140 miles east-southeast of the Lesser Antilles, the arc of Caribbean islands that extends from the US Virgin Islands to Grenada.
On its present track, the center of Hurricane Beryl is estimated to pass between 70 and 100 miles (110 to 130 km) north of Barbados late Sunday/early Monday before moving over the northern Lesser Antilles.
National Hurricane Center has released the latest report for Hurricane Beryl Saturday morning and shows the system is beginning the forecasted slight turn to the west-northwest at 14 miles per hour.
Beryl, a tiny, fast-moving storm, will likely be a hurricane when it reaches Caribbean islands over the weekend hit hard by Hurricane Maria previous year.
However, long-term forecasts still have Beryl staying somewhat organized into the middle of next week.
A disturbance is being watched off the southeastern United States coast.
A Tropical Storm Watch means that tropical storm conditions are possible within the watch area.
The National Weather Service downgraded Hurricane Beryl to a tropical storm Saturday (July 7) as the system showed signs of becoming disorganized.
A hurricane watch has been issued for Dominica while four French Caribbean territories are under tropical storm watch, as an unpredictable Hurricane Beryl continues on a path towards the Lesser Antilles. A favorable weather pattern during the next few hours will help the storm strengthen before it reaches the Lesser Antilles and dives into the warmer Caribbean Sea waters.
However, the emergence of Beryl serves as a timely reminder that, despite the long-term forecast of much less activity this season than first believed, storms are always unpredictable.
