Reliance announces Jio GigaFiber across 1100 Indian cities
Jio Phone was launched with much fanfare past year, promising to revolutionising the feature phone market as the company's telecom operations had upended the industry.
"We will now extend fiber connectivity to homes, merchants, small and medium enterprises and large enterprises simultaneously across 1,100 cities to offer the most advanced fiber-based broadband connectivity solutions", he said.
Speaking at the company's 41st annual general meeting, Ambani said the service will provide ultra high definition entertainment on TV, voice activated assistance, virtual reality gaming and digital shopping as well as smart home solutions.
The service will be called "Jio GigaFiber Service". Of course, the best experience will be on the Jio network.
Reliance Jio is nothing but a digital revolution in India as far as cheap mobile phone and low-priced high-speed internet connectivity is concerned.
The fixed-line broadband will be introduced in 1,100 cities in India. Jio said it aims to bring India among the top 5 global fixed line broadband players.
Reliance Industries Chairman further stated that Reliance is India's largest payer of Goods and Services Tax (GST), Excise and Customs Duty, and Income Tax in the private sector. Now, however, Jio has announced that both WhatsApp and YouTube will be available for download via the Jio App Store starting August 15, the same day Jio Phone 2 hits the market.
Also, on the occasion was launched JioPhone 2.0 that will be priced at Rs. 2,999. Subscribers will be able to use voice commands on a microphone-enabled TV remote to access the standard Jio suite of apps. The device offers support for 24 Indian languages and voice commands.The device also supports NFC which the company introduced previous year. The company will roll out the services in localities based on the interest it has received from the registrations. Under this offer, by exchanging your old feature phone, consumers can get a brand new JioPhone for an effective entry price of just Rs 501.
Reliance Jio will also soon detail a broader smart home platform which will include a handful of home products like surveillance cameras, connected speakers, GigaTV, smart plugs, thermostats, and more.
The Jio GigaTV set-top box will come with over 600 movie channels, 1000s of movies and millions of songs.
