Southern Ontario still under extreme heat warning

Extreme heat warnings have been issued across southwestern Ontario

Extreme heat warnings have been issued across southwestern Ontario

The air temperature will be 30 or above until Friday when a cold front is forecast to pass through southern Ontario.

The warnings stretch from Sudbury and North Bay down to Windsor and east past Montreal.

As a result, the City of Greater Sudbury extended the hours at municipal facilities and lifeguard supervision at municipal beaches throughout the long weekend.

The area, along with much of southern Ontario, Quebec, and Atlantic Canada, is experiencing what Environment Canada has called the "most significant heat event in the past few years". Daytime highs again will be in the low 30s with humidex near 40. He said that while the mercury will remain "elevated", overnight lows in the mid-teens will provide relief to many. According to current figures, the heat may persist until the middle of next week, as a special metpredprijatija.

Lows in the 20s continue to provide "little or no relief from the heat", the agency said.

To prevent heat stress during a heat alert, Dr. Strang suggests to stay in a shaded, cool or air-conditioned area, drink plenty of water, wear light-coloured clothing and to not leave anyone or any animal unattended in vehicles.

Watch for the effects of heat illness: swelling, rash, cramps, fainting, heat exhaustion, heat stroke and the worsening of some health conditions.

It says "a very warm and humid airmass" will settle over eastern Quebec and the Maritime provinces this weekend, and will last into next week.
