Google Home and Chromecast devices worldwide are not functioning for many users.

Google would not confirm if the issue was related to a broken software patch, though that's being reported on Twitter.

The Google Home help forum was filled with consumer complaints.

"There was a glitch".

"Hmm, something went wrong". The other way is to head into the Google Home app, tap the Devices button in the top right corner, and see a list of your Google Home devices.

A Google spokeswoman also recognised the malfunction is affecting Chromecast dongles too.

Google confirmed the outage to TechCrunch, though said it was only affecting a subset of users.

As it would be nearly impossible to ignore all of the comments online from customers who are experiencing downtime, Google has acknowledged the issue and states that a fix is being worked on.

By 20:46 last night, Google confirmed the reports were a result of a glitch on its side, and that it was working on it.

"We've identified a fix for the issue impacting Google Home and Chromecast users and it will be automatically rolled out over the next 6 hours". If you would like an immediate fix please follow the directions to reboot your device.

One user said his speaker replied to the "OK Google" command with "Google home has not setup yet. We are really sorry for the inconvenience and are taking steps to prevent this issue from happening in the future". However, it is telling affected users it is working on a fix.
